Golgi-associated RAB2 interactor protein 5A (GARIN5A), also known as FAM71E1, is a protein-coding gene conserved in vertebrates and mammals, predominantly expressed in testis and related to spermatogenesis in mice[1][2][3]. GARIN5A functions as a RAB2 effector protein, involved in innate immune responses to cytosolic DNA, regulation of type I interferon production (through the cGAS-STING signaling axis), and cell morphogenesis[1]. It contains a RAB2-binding domain and interacts with small GTPases RAB2A/B, likely modulating membrane trafficking at the Golgi apparatus[1][2][4]. Disease associations include neurodevelopmental disorders and immunological syndromes[1]. There is no evidence that GARIN5A is currently considered a therapeutic target, interacts with drugs, or serves as a biomarker or safety concern in clinical medicine[1][3][5].
