Golgi membrane protein 1 (GOLM1), also known as Golgi phosphoprotein 2 (GOLPH2) or GP73, is a type II transmembrane glycoprotein primarily found in the cis and medial Golgi of epithelial cells[1][5][7][10]. It participates in protein processing and trafficking through the Golgi apparatus and shows increased expression in response to viral infections and various cancers. Its soluble, cleaved form can be detected in blood and is under investigation as a sensitive biomarker for liver disease (notably hepatocellular carcinoma), as well as several other malignancies[2][6][8][10]. While its precise molecular function is not fully elucidated, there is evidence it may suppress immune responses, participate in cell migration/invasion in epithelial cancers, and interact with secretory clusterin[4][9][10]. GOLM1 is highly conserved and possesses unusual heat and protease resistance due to its helical structure[5][10].
