Golgin A6 family-like pseudogene (ENSG00000260784) is a segment of DNA in the human genome classified as a pseudogene, meaning it closely resembles a functional gene from the golgin A6 family but is rendered nonfunctional due to disabling mutations such as premature stop codons, frameshifts, or lack of regulatory sequences. Unlike functional genes, pseudogenes like this do not encode biologically active proteins and are typically not transcribed or translated. Pseudogenes can sometimes play minor roles through non-coding RNAs, but most have no active biological function and are considered genomic "fossils" or "junk DNA". The golgin A6 family, to which the parental gene belongs, is related to golgi apparatus organization, but the pseudogene does not contribute to this cellular function. This particular pseudogene is not a therapeutic target and has no known role in disease or pharmacology.
