Golgin A8 family member N (GOLGA8N) is a protein localized to the Golgi apparatus, predicted to be involved in maintenance of Golgi structure and organization. GOLGA8N is primarily active in the Golgi cis cisterna, Golgi cisterna membrane, and cis-Golgi network. Alterations in GOLGA8N are associated with chromosome 15q13.3 deletion syndrome. There is currently no evidence that this gene product functions as a receptor, enzyme, or recognized therapeutic target. GOLGA8N is a protein-coding gene and a paralog of GOLGA8O. It is part of a broader golgin family, proteins that generally contribute to the structural integrity and trafficking functions of the Golgi apparatus. There is no information about drug interactions, mechanism of drug action, utility as a biomarker, or specific safety or therapeutic concerns associated directly with GOLGA8N in current biomedical databases. Some related Golgin family members (not GOLGA8N specifically) have been linked to roles in neurological disorders and cancer, but these functions are not currently attributed to GOLGA8N.
