Overview

Golgin subfamily A member 4 (GOLGA4) is a large coiled-coil protein of the Golgin family localized to the Golgi apparatus, specifically involved in the organization, stacking, and maintenance of Golgi cisternae. It plays important roles in vesicular trafficking, particularly Rab6-regulated membrane-tethering events, and the delivery of glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-linked proteins from the trans-Golgi network. The protein interacts with other Golgi and cytoskeletal components, such as ARL1, and may contribute to Golgi reorganization during mitosis. Alternative splice variants have been identified, reflecting its complex regulation. GOLGA4 is not considered a classic therapeutic target but may be indirectly relevant to cancer biology due to its association with squamous papillomatosis and chronic neutrophilic leukemia. Despite numerous historical aliases, it is most accurately referred to as Golgin subfamily A member 4 (GOLGA4).
