Overview

Golgin subfamily A member 6-like protein 2 (GOLGA6L2) is a protein-coding gene and member of the golgin family of Golgi structural proteins, predicted to be located in the cis-Golgi network. It is most notable as a cancer/testis antigen (CT antigen), a group of genes usually silent in normal adult tissues except the testis but often aberrantly expressed in various cancers. While its precise molecular function is not well characterized, GOLGA6L2 likely contributes to the structure or organization of the Golgi apparatus. The known disease associations are primarily from genomic studies linking GOLGA6L2 to certain cancers and rare disorders; however, its direct functional role in pathogenesis and suitability as a therapeutic target remain unestablished. Its immunogenicity and restricted normal expression profile have led to some interest as a potential cancer biomarker or immunotherapeutic candidate, characteristic of the broader cancer/testis antigen family, though experimental evidence is currently lacking and no drugs or established mechanisms of action are described for this protein.
