Overview

Golgin subfamily A member 6D (GOLGA6D) is a member of the golgin family of coiled-coil proteins associated with the Golgi apparatus, a key organelle involved in protein modification and intracellular trafficking[1]. Golgins, including GOLGA6D, function primarily in tethering events—they help mediate membrane fusion and maintain the structural integrity of Golgi cisternae[1]. Some golgins bind Rab GTPases to localize vesicles for trafficking, while others may link Golgi membranes to the cytoskeleton, suggesting additional roles in organizational dynamics of the Golgi network[1]. There is currently no evidence that GOLGA6D serves as a direct therapeutic target, nor are there approved drugs or clinical biomarkers specifically associated with it. While the family of golgins is crucial for overall Golgi apparatus dynamics, most research and published data focus on more studied members (such as GM130 and p115), and specific functional details for GOLGA6D remain limited[1]. There is no current literature connecting GOLGA6D to any unique human diseases, and it is not generally regarded as a canonical receptor, enzyme, transporter, or direct drug target[1].
