Gonadotrophin-Releasing Hormone Receptor (GnRHR)

Target
GnRHR
Molecular classification
G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR), Seven-transmembrane domain receptor, Class A GPCR, Rhodopsin-like GPCR
01

Overview

The Gonadotrophin-Releasing Hormone Receptor (GnRHR) is a seven-transmembrane domain G protein-coupled receptor that mediates the effects of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH). It is primarily expressed on pituitary gonadotrope cells and plays a central role in regulating reproductive function by stimulating the synthesis and secretion of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). GnRHR is a therapeutic target for reproductive disorders and hormone-dependent cancers.

Mechanism of action

Agonists stimulate LH/FSH release when given intermittently; Antagonists/inhibitors suppress gonadal steroidogenesis when given continuously.
