Gonadotropin Receptor

Molecular classification
G protein-coupled receptor, GPCR, Class A GPCR, Rhodopsin-like GPCR
01

Overview

Gonadotropin receptors are a family of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) that bind gonadotropins such as follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), and chorionic gonadotropin (CG). Key members include FSHR, LHCGR, and GnRHR. These receptors regulate reproductive physiology, including ovarian steroidogenesis, ovulation, and spermatogenesis. They are targets for therapeutic intervention in infertility, precocious puberty, and hormone-dependent cancers. Mutations can cause clinical syndromes impacting sexual development and fertility. Regulation occurs through ligand binding, allosteric modulation, and hormone-mediated expression changes.

Mechanism of action

Ligand binding induces conformational change, activating G proteins and downstream signaling cascades (e.g., cAMP, phosphatidylinositol-calcium)
