Overview

Gonadotropin secretion is the process by which the anterior pituitary gland releases luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), which act on the gonads to regulate reproductive function. This secretion is tightly controlled by gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) from the hypothalamus. In females, LH and FSH stimulate ovarian follicle maturation, ovulation, and production of sex steroids. In males, FSH promotes spermatogenesis, while LH stimulates testosterone production. Dysregulation of this process can lead to infertility and other reproductive disorders.
