Goose parvovirus capsid protein VP3 (GPV VP3)

Target
GPV VP3
Molecular classification
Viral capsid protein, Structural protein
01

Overview

Goose parvovirus capsid protein VP3 is the most abundant structural component of the Goose parvovirus (GPV) capsid, which is the causative agent of Derzsy's disease, a highly contagious and fatal condition in young geese and Muscovy ducks. As a major capsid protein, VP3 plays a critical role in the assembly of the viral shell, protection of the viral genome, and the initial stages of infection, including host cell receptor binding and internalization. Because it contains the primary neutralizing epitopes of the virus, VP3 is the central target for the development of diagnostic tools and preventive strategies. Therapeutic and prophylactic interventions primarily focus on the use of recombinant VP3 proteins in subunit vaccines or the administration of hyperimmune sera to provide passive immunity. Understanding the structural integrity and antigenic variability of VP3 is essential for managing outbreaks in the poultry industry and ensuring the efficacy of immunization programs.

Mechanism of action

Vaccines targeting VP3 induce neutralizing antibodies that prevent viral attachment and entry into host cells; hyperimmune sera provide passive immunity by neutralizing circulating virions.
