Overview

GPA33 antisense RNA 1 (GPA33-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcript located in the genomic region antisense to the GPA33 gene, which encodes Glycoprotein A33, a cell surface marker expressed in intestinal epithelial cells[1][2]. Unlike GPA33, GPA33-AS1 does not code for a protein. Its function, disease association, and therapeutic relevance are currently unknown or unreported in the published literature. Key distinction: - GPA33-AS1 is *not* a protein-coding gene, receptor, enzyme, or established therapeutic target. - The well-characterized therapeutic target is GPA33 (Glycoprotein A33), not GPA33-AS1. GPA33 is targeted in antibody-based therapies for colorectal cancer due to its surface expression in intestinal tissues and neoplasms[1][2]. Currently, there is no evidence that GPA33-AS1 serves as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or a participant in disease mechanisms.
