Overview

GPC1 antisense RNA 1 (*GPC1-AS1*) is purported to be a long non-coding RNA transcribed from the antisense strand of the *GPC1* locus. As of September 2025, *GPC1-AS1* is not an established therapeutic target, and its biological roles—if any—are not described in authoritative molecular biology or biomedical literature, in contrast to the well-characterized *GPC1* gene encoding the protein Glypican-1[1][2][3][8]. There is limited or no evidence in main genetic databases (such as GeneCards or UniProt) for a characterized, functional *GPC1-AS1* RNA, and no drugs or disease associations are reported. The *GPC1* gene itself encodes a cell surface heparan sulfate proteoglycan involved in multiple cancer types and cell growth processes[1][2][3][8], but *GPC1-AS1* is distinct and, if it exists at all, has no established function or clinical relevance as of this review.
