These components are the primary targets for various classes of antibiotics; for instance, polymyxins disrupt the LPS layer, while beta-lactams inhibit peptidoglycan synthesis (Falagas & Kasiakou, 2005, Clin Infect Dis). Targeting these structures is a cornerstone of treating infections caused by multidrug-resistant Gram-negative pathogens, though challenges such as membrane impermeability and active efflux often limit drug efficacy (Breijyeh et al., 2020, Molecules).
