Gram-positive Bacterial Cell Membrane

Molecular classification
Lipid Bilayer, Cell Membrane, Phospholipid membrane
01

Overview

The Gram-positive bacterial cell membrane is a phospholipid bilayer that lies beneath a thick peptidoglycan cell wall. It's responsible for maintaining cellular integrity, controlling the passage of molecules in and out of the cell, and facilitating various metabolic processes. It is the primary target for cationic antimicrobial agents like cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC), which disrupt the membrane structure, leading to cell death.
