Overview

GRAMD1A antisense RNA 1 (GRAMD1A-AS1) is a noncoding RNA gene located on chromosome 19, opposite to the coding gene GRAMD1A. There is currently no evidence in the literature or major biological databases to suggest that GRAMD1A-AS1 encodes a protein, acts as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or is itself a direct therapeutic target. Almost all detailed research and therapeutic interest refer to the sense gene, GRAMD1A, which encodes a cholesterol transport protein with biological roles in cholesterol homeostasis and cancer. Antisense RNAs like GRAMD1A-AS1 sometimes regulate the expression of nearby coding genes, but for GRAMD1A-AS1 specifically, there is no curated evidence supporting such a role at this time. Major gene annotation sources such as Ensembl and NCBI list GRAMD1A-AS1 as a gene entry but provide no established function, expression pattern, or disease connection. GRAMD1A-AS1 does not currently meet scientific or therapeutic criteria to be considered a molecular target or a well-defined biomolecule beyond its sequence annotation as a long noncoding RNA (lncRNA). Information about "GRAMD1A" (the sense protein-coding gene) should not be conflated with GRAMD1A-AS1.
