This phase facilitates wound closure by generating a vascularized and cellular scaffold that fills tissue defects, supports re-epithelialization, and is eventually remodeled into scar tissue[1][2]. The process is regulated by growth factors such as TGF-β, VEGF, and PDGF, and can be disrupted by infection, foreign material, or systemic disease, leading to either chronic wounds or hypertrophic scarring[2][3][4]. As a pathway, it is not a single molecular drug target, but a dynamic interplay of several cell types and signaling molecules[2][3][5].
