Overview

The granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor receptor subunit alpha (CSF2RA) is the alpha component of the heterodimeric receptor for granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), a cytokine that regulates the production, differentiation, and function of granulocytes and macrophages. This protein is a member of the cytokine receptor family and is also known as CD116. Upon ligand binding, it heterodimerizes with the beta chain (CD131/CSF2RB) and activates downstream signaling pathways, primarily the JAK/STAT pathway. Mutations or dysfunctions are associated with surfactant metabolism dysfunction type 4 and hereditary pulmonary alveolar proteinosis.
