GRAPL antisense RNA 1 (GRAPL-AS1)

Target
GRAPL-AS1
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), Antisense RNA
01

Overview

GRAPL antisense RNA 1 (GRAPL-AS1) is a long non-coding antisense RNA gene. It produces an RNA molecule complementary to the protein-coding GRAPL gene, which may regulate GRAPL gene expression post-transcriptionally through hybridization and affecting mRNA stability; these mechanisms are characteristic of natural antisense transcripts. GRAPL-AS1 is annotated in the human genome and has been affiliated with disease risk, notably autism spectrum disorder, though its exact biological roles are yet to be fully elucidated[5][6].

02

Mechanism of action

Not applicable (No drugs identified as interacting; by general mechanism, antisense RNAs regulate gene expression through RNA–RNA hybridization and inhibition of translation[6].)

03

Biological functions

Regulation of gene expression via hybridization to complementary mRNA (antisense regulation)Possible involvement in mRNA stability and degradation
04

Disease associations

Associated with Autism Spectrum DisorderOther roles have yet to be thoroughly characterized
