The grass pollen allergen-specific immune response encompasses the immunological events triggered by exposure to grass pollen allergens, especially in allergic individuals. This response involves both innate and adaptive immune components, leading to the production of specific IgE antibodies and inflammatory cytokines. Allergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT) aims to modify this response, shifting it towards tolerance through increased levels of protective IgG4 and IgA2 antibodies, regulatory cytokines (IL-10, TGF-β), and regulatory T cells.
AIT aims to shift the immune response from a Th2/IgE-dominated allergic state towards a regulatory/tolerant state, characterized by increased production of allergen-specific IgG4 and IgA2 antibodies, as well as regulatory cytokines like IL-10 and TGF-β.
