Overview

GRIK1 antisense RNA 1 (GRIK1-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA located at chromosome 21q21.3, antisense to the GRIK1 coding gene. Unlike protein-coding genes, GRIK1-AS1 functions primarily through regulation of gene expression at the RNA level. In gastric cancer, it is significantly down-regulated, and its restoration suppresses cancer cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. It acts as a tumor suppressor, likely through sponging miR-375, which in turn regulates the IFIT2 protein, known for its anti-tumor activity. The function of GRIK1-AS1 is mainly emerging in cancer biology, and it is not recognized as a direct drug target in classical pharmacology.

Mechanism of action

As a lncRNA, it interacts mainly through RNA-RNA or RNA-protein interactions, not classical drug-target mechanisms.

03

Biological functions

Regulation of gene expressionNegative regulation of cell proliferation (especially in cancer cells)Inhibits migration and invasion of gastric cancer cellsActs as a molecular sponge for miR-375, thereby indirectly regulating the IFIT2 protein
04

Disease associations

Cancer (notably acts as a tumor suppressor in gastric cancer)Other (role in disease is emerging and not limited to cancer)
05

Biomarkers

Down-regulated expression may serve as a biomarker for poor prognosis or diagnosis in gastric cancer
