Overview

GRM5 antisense RNA 1 (GRM5-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed antisense to the GRM5 gene, which encodes metabotropic glutamate receptor 5 (mGluR5). Antisense RNAs, like GRM5-AS1, regulate gene expression primarily by interacting with their sense (protein-coding) counterparts, potentially controlling transcription, modulating mRNA stability, or altering chromatin structure. Although antisense RNAs have important regulatory roles in many contexts, there is no direct evidence in current literature indicating that GRM5-AS1 has a specific, validated biological or disease-related function, nor is it a direct target for drugs or therapies. If your intention was to find information on mGluR5 (the protein-coding glutamate metabotropic receptor 5, encoded by the GRM5 gene), it is a well-studied therapeutic target in neurology and psychiatry. GRM5-AS1, however, is not a protein, receptor, or common therapeutic target, but a regulatory non-coding transcript. If you require information on the protein-coding GRM5 gene product (mGluR5), please specify.
