Group A nerve fibers are a category of heavily myelinated peripheral nerve axons classified according to diameter, conduction velocity, and function within both sensory and motor systems[1][2][3][5]. The group is subdivided into A-alpha (proprioceptive; largest, fastest), A-beta (mechanoreceptive, touch), A-gamma (motor to muscle spindle), and A-delta (nociceptive, cold, acute pain)[1][2][5]. These fibers support rapid transmission of electrical signals across the nervous system. They are primarily physiological units rather than single molecular targets, and are frequently referenced in the context of pain and neurophysiology. Their loss or dysfunction is implicated in diseases such as neuropathies and neurodegeneration, but they are not themselves a druggable target. Drugs such as local anesthetics inhibit their signal propagation by blocking sodium channels, resulting in nerve block for pain management or anesthesia[6][7].
