Target intelligence / Profile preview

Group IIA Secretory Phospholipase A2 (sPLA2-IIA)

Target
sPLA2-IIA
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Phospholipase, Secreted protein
01

Overview

Group IIA secretory phospholipase A2 (sPLA2-IIA) is an enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of the sn-2 ester bond in glycerophospholipids, releasing free fatty acids and lysophospholipids. It plays a role in inflammatory responses and antimicrobial activity. Elevated levels are observed in various inflammatory diseases, making it a potential biomarker. sPLA2-IIA also induces production of VEGF-A and VEGF-C, implicating it in angiogenesis.
