Target intelligence / Profile preview

Group III metabotropic glutamate receptor 7 (mGluR7)

Target
mGluR7
Molecular classification
G protein-coupled receptor, GPCR, Class C GPCR
01

Overview

Metabotropic glutamate receptor 7 (mGluR7) is a G protein-coupled receptor that belongs to the group III mGluR family. It is primarily expressed in the central nervous system, particularly in the amygdala, hippocampus, and hypothalamus, where it functions as a presynaptic autoreceptor and heteroreceptor to inhibit the release of glutamate and GABA. mGluR7 has low affinity for glutamate and is implicated in neurodevelopmental disorders and seizure susceptibility. There are currently no approved drugs that directly target mGluR7.
