Overview

Growth differentiation factor 10 (GDF10) is a secreted protein belonging to the transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) superfamily, closely related to bone morphogenetic proteins. It is involved in diverse physiological processes including head and skeletal formation, inhibition of osteoblast and adipocyte differentiation, neural repair after injury, regulation of lipid metabolism, and suppression of tumor cell growth and metastasis. GDF10 binds TGF-beta receptors and modulates cellular responses via SMAD-dependent signaling. Its expression and functional activity are associated with disease states such as various cancers, post-stroke neural repair, and hepatic steatosis. GDF10 is multifunctional, and its dysregulation can have significant developmental and pathological consequences[1][2][3][4][5].

Mechanism of action
