Overview

Growth hormone-regulated TBC protein 1 (GRTP1) is a 258 amino acid protein containing the TBC signature motif typical of GTPase-activating proteins for Rab family small GTPases. It is encoded by the GRTP1 gene (HGNC:20310, NCBI Gene:79774) located on chromosome 13 in humans. GRTP1 is most highly expressed in the testis, with lower expression in organs such as intestine, kidney, lung, and liver. Its transcript levels increase post-pubertally and are directly regulated by growth hormone (increased expression in testis, decreased in kidney and liver following GH administration in mice)[1][3][6]. The protein is predicted to function within the cytoplasm and plasma membrane, modulating Rab-dependent vesicular traffic through its GAP activity[2][5][7]. No current evidence links GRTP1 directly to specific diseases or therapeutic interventions, but its conserved expression patterns and hormone regulation suggest biological relevance in endocrine tissue development and testicular function[1][4][6].
