Target intelligence / Profile preview

Growth hormone secretion from anterior pituitary gland

01

Overview

Growth hormone secretion from the anterior pituitary gland refers to the physiological process whereby somatotroph cells in the anterior pituitary release growth hormone (GH) into the bloodstream. This secretion is regulated by hypothalamic growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) and inhibited by somatostatin, as well as regulated by metabolic and feedback signals, such as insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1). It is a key process for normal growth, metabolism, and cellular regeneration but is not itself a molecular target for drug development.
