GRPEL2 pseudogene 1 (GRPEL2P1)

Overview

GRPEL2 pseudogene 1 is a non-protein-coding genomic sequence homologous to the functional GRPEL2 gene but contains mutations or deletions that prevent it from encoding a functional protein. Pseudogenes like GRPEL2P1 are often remnants of duplicated or retrotransposed genes. While some pseudogenes have been found to regulate gene expression (for instance, by acting as molecular decoys for microRNAs), there is no published data directly attributing such a function to GRPEL2 pseudogene 1. Furthermore, there is no evidence that GRPEL2P1 is a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or otherwise a therapeutic target.

02

Biological functions

Pseudogenes generally do not encode functional proteins; however, they may have regulatory roles at the RNA level, such as acting as competitive endogenous RNAs ("ceRNAs") or microRNA sponges, but no such function is specifically reported for GRPEL2P1.
03

Disease associations

No established direct disease roles for GRPEL2 pseudogene 1. Generally, some pseudogenes are implicated in cancer or regulation of gene expression, but there is no evidence that GRPEL2P1 is involved.
