Overview

GS homeobox 1 (GSX1) is a **homeobox transcription factor** involved in the regulation of gene expression during development, particularly in the nervous system[2][3]. It binds sequence-specific sites in DNA and activates the transcription of downstream genes, such as the gene for growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH)[3]. GSX1 plays a critical role in neuronal differentiation and neural circuit assembly in brain regions involved in visual processing, pituitary development, and the determination of neural progenitor cell fate in the ventral telencephalon, spinal cord, and other central nervous system areas[1][3]. Dysfunction of GSX1 can lead to defects in hormone signaling, growth abnormalities, and has been implicated in certain forms of diabetes and neurodevelopmental disorders[1][3]. No drugs currently target GSX1 directly, and it is not considered a conventional therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or ion channel.
