GTP binding protein 2 is a member of the GTPase superfamily and is encoded by the GTPBP2 gene in humans[1][5]. GTP-binding proteins act as molecular switches by cycling between an active GTP-bound state and an inactive GDP-bound state, modulating a wide range of intracellular signaling and regulatory processes[1][4][5]. While GTP binding protein 2 has GTPase activity and is classified as a GTPase, its specific cellular roles are not fully characterized, but like other GTPases, it is likely involved in the regulation of signaling, growth, and autophagy pathways[5]. Pathogenic variants in GTPBP2 are associated with conditions such as Jaberi-Elahi Syndrome and neurodegeneration with brain iron accumulation[5]. There are no widely cited drugs or established mechanisms of therapeutic targeting for GTP binding protein 2, nor is it recognized as a major therapeutic target in current clinical pharmacology[5].
