Overview

GTPase IMAP family member 4 is a small GTPase enzyme classified within the GTP-binding superfamily and the immunity-associated nucleotide (IAN) subfamily. It is prominently expressed in lymphocytes and plays roles in immune cell development, regulation of apoptosis in thymocytes, and cytokine secretion by T-helper cells. The gene is found clustered with other IAN subfamily members on chromosome 7q36.1. Although associated with immune-related diseases such as Behçet syndrome and alveolar periostitis, there are currently no direct drugs or established biomarkers targeting GIMAP4. Its essential biological functions highlight its importance in immune regulation and apoptosis signaling in the thymus.
