Overview

GTPase IMAP family member 6 (GIMAP6) is a cytosolic enzyme belonging to the P-loop NTPase superfamily, characterized by GTP- and ATP-binding and hydrolysis activity[2]. GIMAP6 is predominantly expressed in T lymphocytes and plays a critical role in regulating both autophagy and lymphocyte homeostasis[1][2]. Conditional deletion or knockdown of GIMAP6 leads to increased apoptosis and disrupted autophagy, resulting in reduced peripheral T cell numbers and compromised adaptive immune system function[1][2]. GIMAP6 is emerging as a key anti-apoptotic protein in immune cell survival and activation, partially mediated via NF-κB signaling[2]. Expression of GIMAP6 is found to be decreased in various cancers, such as hepatocellular carcinoma and non-small cell lung cancer, suggesting a role in tumorigenesis and its potential as a biomarker for disease diagnosis and progression[1][3][5]. No current drug interactors or classic mechanisms of action for drug targeting have been described in available literature.
