Guanylate binding protein 1 pseudogene 1 (GBP1P1), also known as LIMIT, is a pseudogene-derived long non-coding RNA located on human chromosome 1[1][2][3][4][5][6]. Despite being a non-coding RNA that does not produce a protein, GBP1P1 is transcribed and has been shown to play a functional role in regulating immune responses and viral replication, particularly in the context of influenza A virus infection, where it acts as a decoy that sequesters the RNA helicase DHX9, thereby inhibiting viral replication[2]. GBP1P1 is an interferon-inducible gene regulated by the JAK/STAT pathway[2]. High expression is observed in tissues such as the esophagus mucosa, lungs, and thyroid, and abnormal expression has been linked to diseases including various cancers, tuberculosis, and neurocysticercosis[2]. Unlike traditional protein-coding drug or therapeutic targets, GBP1P1 is not a receptor, enzyme, or transporter and is not currently recognized as a direct therapeutic target[2][6]. Its primary known role is as a regulator of gene expression in antiviral and possibly tumor immunity contexts.
