Guanylate-binding protein 6 (GBP6) is a large, interferon-induced GTPase that belongs to the dynamin superfamily and is encoded by the GBP6 gene in humans. GBP6 is characterized by its ability to hydrolyze GTP to both GDP and GMP, and it is highly responsive to interferon stimulation. As part of the guanylate-binding protein family, it serves as a multifaceted regulator in innate and adaptive immune responses and is implicated in defense against a wide variety of pathogens. GBP6 is integral to interferon-regulated responses and is involved in inflammatory signaling, vascular inflammation, and tumorigenesis. Recent evidence highlights its potential roles as a diagnostic and prognostic biomarker in cancers such as oral squamous cell carcinoma, and as a modulator of immune response during infection and atherogenesis.
