Guanylate cyclase soluble subunit alpha-1 (sGCα1) is a subunit of the heterodimeric soluble guanylate cyclase (sGC) enzyme, a primary receptor for nitric oxide (NO). Upon NO binding, sGC catalyzes the conversion of GTP to cGMP, a second messenger involved in vasorelaxation and other physiological processes. Therapeutic agents targeting sGC, such as riociguat and vericiguat, stimulate cGMP production for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
