GUCY2C antisense RNA 1 (GUCY2C-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA gene transcribed antisense to the GUCY2C locus. As an antisense RNA, it is thought to regulate the expression of the GUCY2C gene, although its specific regulatory mechanisms and functions remain understudied. GUCY2C-AS1 is classified within the lncRNA family and has been genetically associated with certain congenital gastrointestinal conditions such as meconium ileus and duodenal atresia. Like other antisense lncRNAs, it is likely to function in cis-regulation of neighboring genes, possibly influencing local chromatin structure or transcriptional activity, but no direct disease mechanisms or drug interactions have been ascribed to it[1][3][6]. No evidence currently supports GUCY2C-AS1 as a direct therapeutic target, receptor, or established biomarker. It should not be confused with the GUCY2C protein, which is a well-characterized transmembrane receptor with clinical relevance to gastrointestinal diseases and cancer[2][4][5][7].
