GUSB pseudogene 19 (abbreviated as GUSBP19) is a genomic DNA sequence highly similar to the functional beta-glucuronidase gene (GUSB), but it is unable to code for a protein due to accumulated disablements such as stop codons or frameshifts[5][7]. Pseudogenes can arise from segmental duplication or retrotransposition, but unlike their parental gene, they are nonfunctional and released from selective pressure. Although rare exceptions exist where pseudogenes may gain regulatory roles, there are no known reports indicating that GUSBP19 is biologically active, pathogenic, or therapeutically relevant. It is not considered a target for drug development or disease therapy[5][7].
