Overview

GUSB pseudogene 3 (GUSBP3) is a human pseudogene, meaning it is a non-functional segment of DNA that resembles the functional GUSB gene (which encodes the enzyme beta-glucuronidase)[5]. Unlike functional genes, pseudogenes such as GUSBP3 generally do not encode active proteins and do not play direct biological or disease roles. The functional GUSB gene is involved in lysosomal degradation of glycosaminoglycans, and mutations in GUSB (not GUSBP3) are implicated in metabolic disorders like mucopolysaccharidosis type VII[1][2][4]. GUSBP3 is sometimes also referenced as GUSBP1 or by other aliases but has not been shown to perform any enzymatic activity or serve as a therapeutic target. No drugs, biomarkers, or known safety concerns are associated with GUSBP3, and it is not recognized as a druggable or clinically actionable target[5].
