GUSBP6
Molecular classification
Other (Pseudogene; not an enzyme, receptor, transporter, or typical drug target)
01

Overview

GUSB pseudogene 6 (GUSBP6) is a human pseudogene, which means it is a segment of DNA that resembles the sequence of a functional gene (here, the glucuronidase beta gene, GUSB) but does not encode a functional protein.[5] GUSBP6 has no known protein product, no confirmed biological activity, and is not considered a therapeutic target. Pseudogenes in general may sometimes modulate gene expression at the RNA level through various mechanisms (such as acting as non-coding RNAs, miRNA decoys, or competitive endogenous RNAs), but there is no specific evidence or literature documenting any regulatory, disease-related, or biomarker function for GUSBP6 specifically.[5][2][9] It should not be confused with the canonical GUSB gene, which encodes lysosomal beta-glucuronidase, an important hydrolase enzyme involved in glycosaminoglycan degradation; GUSBP6 is only related in sequence and has no known function.[1][3][5]
