Unlike protein-coding histone genes, H2AC9P contains mutations and alterations in coding and flanking regions that preclude its transcription into a functional histone protein[1][3]. These alterations may include frame-shift mutations, deletions, substitutions, and loss of consensus transcriptional sequences, which make it a non-functional pseudogene rather than a true structural or regulatory protein[1][3]. Thus, H2AC9P does not contribute to nucleosome or chromatin structure and does not act as a molecular target for therapeutic intervention.
