H2B histone pseudogene 5 (H2BP5) belongs to the family of histone H2B pseudogenes[7]. Pseudogenes are genetically similar to protein-coding genes but contain mutations—such as frame shifts, premature stop codons, or regulatory sequence defects—that render them non-functional[2][4]. In the case of H2B histone pseudogenes, including H2BP5, alterations in protein-coding and regulatory regions prevent the expression of a functional H2B histone protein[2][4]. There is no evidence that H2BP5 encodes a functional protein, participates in chromatin biology, or is involved in any therapeutic indication. It does not serve as a "target" in the conventional pharmaceutical or molecular biology sense. In summary, H2B histone pseudogene 5 is an unprocessed non-functional pseudogene, not a receptor, enzyme, transporter, nor a therapeutic target, and has no established biological or disease-related function[2][4][7].
