Overview

H3 histone pseudogene 17 (H3P17) is a nonfunctional genomic sequence similar to histone H3 genes. Pseudogenes of histones are common in the mammalian genome and usually do not encode functional proteins[2][4]. Some may be transcribed into RNA and participate in regulatory processes, but there is no evidence that H3P17 is functional or relevant for therapeutic targeting. Standardized genomic nomenclature typically appends "-ps" or a variant to indicate pseudogene status[4]. As a pseudogene, it does not form part of chromatin, mediate transcriptional activity, or serve as a direct drug target.

Biological functions

Pseudogenes generally do not encode functional proteins, but recent studies suggest some may have RNA-level expression or regulatory roles in certain contexts. There is no evidence of specific biological functions for H3P17.

Disease associations

OtherThere are no known direct disease associations or roles for H3P17; some histone pseudogenes may be expressed at the RNA level in specific tissues, but this is not a well-established disease link.
