Overview

H3 histone pseudogene 2 is a human pseudogene in the histone H3 family. Unlike the canonical histone H3 genes, which encode proteins essential for chromatin structure and regulation, H3P2 is considered non-coding and is classified as a pseudogene because it does not produce a functional histone protein[1][3][5][12]. While functional histone H3 variants are actively involved in chromatin regulation and gene expression, pseudogenes like H3P2 can arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition and are typically non-functional remnants within the genome. There is no evidence that H3P2 participates directly in any biological processes, disease mechanisms, or serves as a drug target, biomarker, or safety concern[1][3][5][12].
