Haematopoietic Prostaglandin D Synthase (HPGDS)

Target
HPGDS
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Sigma-class Glutathione S-transferase
01

Overview

Haematopoietic prostaglandin D synthase is a key cytosolic enzyme responsible for producing PGD₂ from PGH₂ via a glutathione-dependent mechanism. It plays central roles both as an effector molecule generator during immune responses—influencing leukocyte migration/cytokine production—and as a potential therapeutic target for diseases involving dysregulated inflammation such as asthma or allergy. Its unique structure among GSTs makes it distinct from other prostaglandin synthases found primarily within the CNS/lipocalins family.
