Overview

Haemophilus influenzae type b capsular polysaccharide, also known as polyribosylribitol phosphate (PRP), is a linear polymer composed of repeating units of ribose and ribitol-5-phosphate. This molecule forms the capsule that surrounds Hib bacteria and is a critical virulence factor, enabling the bacterium to evade host immune responses and cause invasive diseases—especially in young children. It is the main antigenic component targeted by all licensed Hib conjugate vaccines.
