Overview

Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) capsular polysaccharide conjugated to tetanus toxoid is the active component in Hib conjugate vaccines. The vaccine induces immunity by stimulating the production of antibodies against the PRP component. Conjugation to tetanus toxoid allows infants and young children to mount an effective immune response through T-cell help, providing protection against invasive Hib diseases.

Mechanism of action

Induces anti-polyribosyl-ribitol-phosphate (anti-PRP) antibodies via T-cell dependent immune response by conjugating PRP to tetanus toxoid, enhancing antigen presentation and B cell activation.
