Haemophilus influenzae type b Capsular Polysaccharide PRP Conjugated to Tetanus Toxoid Protein Carrier (PRP-T)

Target
PRP-T
Molecular classification
Polysaccharide, Toxoid, Conjugate Vaccine
01

Overview

Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) capsular polysaccharide, known as polyribosyl-ribitol-phosphate (PRP), is conjugated to tetanus toxoid (TT) to enhance its immunogenicity, particularly in infants. The conjugation process transforms the immune response from T-cell independent to T-cell dependent, resulting in improved antibody production. This conjugate vaccine is used for prevention of invasive diseases caused by H. influenzae type b such as meningitis and sepsis. Tetanus toxoid serves as an effective carrier protein due to its ability to stimulate T-cell responses.
