Overview

Haemophilus influenzae type b polyribosyl-ribitol-phosphate polysaccharide–tetanus toxoid conjugate is a component of Hib vaccines such as Hiberix and ActHIB. It consists of a purified capsular polysaccharide (polyribosyl-ribitol-phosphate, PRP) from Haemophilus influenzae type b, covalently linked to tetanus toxoid, which acts as a carrier protein. This conjugate is formulated as a lyophilized powder for reconstitution and intramuscular injection. Its purpose is to induce a strong immune response in infants and young children, protecting them from invasive Hib diseases by generating IgG antibodies against the bacterial capsule. This conjugate is not a molecular target for drugs but rather a synthetic antigen used to stimulate protective immunity. Its clinical role is exclusively preventive (immunization).
