Haemophilus influenzae type b polyribosyl-ribitol-phosphate-tetanus toxoid conjugate (PRP-T)

Target
PRP-T
Molecular classification

01

Overview

The PRP-T is a conjugate vaccine component designed to prevent infections caused by *Haemophilus influenzae* type b (Hib), a Gram-negative bacterium responsible for severe diseases such as meningitis, epiglottitis, pneumonia, septic arthritis, and pericarditis in young children. The vaccine consists of the Hib capsular polysaccharide—polyribosyl-ribitol-phosphate (PRP)—covalently linked to tetanus toxoid protein. This conjugation enhances immunogenicity by enabling T-cell dependent immune responses in infants and young children who otherwise respond poorly to plain polysaccharide antigens.
